From 1889 to the early 1960's, children lived in the Genevieve Orphanage or in the Family

Counseling and Children's Services that later evolved. Some of the former residents have expressed
an interest in finding other children who once lived there. The Center for Families wants to reunite the
people who once resided at The Genevieve, to facilitate their reconnection, and help them share their
stories and memories with each other. The history of the Genevieve residents is not well documented,
so staff are trying to create a written record of the children, their stories and their memories and to
provide a link for their future reunions. As one former Genevieve resident recently said "the other
children there were my only family. Now I have no idea how to reach them." The Open House hopefully
began their reconnection.

As a result of the recent Open House, and the efforts to reunite former residents, this webpage will

hopefully be utilized as a source of connection. The Center still needs your help to locate children who grew
up in the Genevieve. If you know of someone who lived at The Genevieve or in their foster care
program
of Family Counseling and Children's Services, please ask them to contact the agency at
(318)222-0759.
If you are searching for someone or have information to share about The Genevieve,
please send an e-mail
to thecntr@aol.com or call (318)222-0759. We will post information and questions here.

I was a resident of the Genevieve Orphanage from 1955 to 1961 (ages 8 to 14). During that time I also lived in six different foster homes. I would enjoy hearing from anyone who lived at the Genevieve. Please contact Clifford Bland at easttexas1243@aol.com

Nancy Shepherd Henley lived at the Genevieve Orphanage in the 50's and 60's. Nancy is looking for information regarding Henry Marshall Shepherd and/or Katherine Shepherd Walton (possibly of Oregon). Please contact Nancy at nancyhenley@bellsouth.net
